Prairie Walls offers a wide variety of instructional programs for climbers.
As a new climber it is crucial that you learn your basic safety skills.
As an advancing climber proper instruction will increase your enjoyment
of the sport and take you to the next level in your climbing.
If you are new to the exciting world of rock climbing, the Get Vertical
class at Prairie Walls is where you want to start. In this two hour
introductory climbing class you will learn the basic safety skills
required for climbing at Prairie Walls.
With a Prairie Walls instructor as your guide you will learn how to put
on a climbing harness, tie the rope into the harness, safety checks, top
rope belaying and basic vertical movement. Upon successful
completion of this class you will have the skills required to climb at
Prairie Walls on your own. Each student will receive a coupon for a free day pass, valid if they pass
their belay certification within two weeks of completing the class. With
the instructors approval you may stay and climb after class.
When: Saturdays 2:00 to 4:00 Tuesdays 6:00 to 8:00
(Other times may be available by appointment. Call for details.)
Cost: $33.00
Note: The price includes all required rental equipment, plus
climbing shoes.
Policies: Reservations are requested for class. Our instructor to
student ratio is approximately 1:8. We will limit the number of students
we accept per class. This class is generally appropriate for ages 12 and
up. All climbers must complete our liability waiver and rules
agreement. Climbers under 18 must have the forms signed by a parent
or legal guardian. Hours, rates and policies are subject to change; call
to verify. All prices subject to tax.
Learning to rock climb with your children is a great family activity. In
climbing, the challenges and rewards are essentially the same for
children and adults, creating a unique family experience.
In this two-hour introductory climbing class parents and children 12
and older will learn the basic safety skills required for climbing at
Prairie Walls. Including how to put on a climbing harness, tie the rope
into the harness, safety checks, top rope belaying and basic vertical
movement. Children 11 and under will climb while the parents belay
them. Upon successful completion of this class parents and children
12 and older will have the skills required to climb at Prairie Walls
on your own.

Ready to expand your climbing horizons? Then try stepping out on the
sharp end of the rope. This class will introduce the experienced top
rope climber to lead climbing and belaying on indoor sport routes. You
will learn how to belay a climber on lead, proper clipping technique,
efficient climbing on lead and falling safely.
When: By appointment only. Call to make a reservation. This is a One to two hour
class.
Cost: $40.00.

completing the class. You may stay and climb after class.
Policies: Minimum of two students per class. Minimum climbing skills
are required for this class, you need to be top rope belay certified and
climbing solidly at a 5.8+ to 5.9 level. This class is generally
appropriate for ages 12 and up. All climbers must complete our
liability waiver and rules agreement. Climbers under 18 must have the
forms signed by a parent or legal guardian. Hours, rates and policies
are subject to change; call to verify. All prices subject to tax.
Rock climbing is a very technique dependent activity. Strength alone
will not see you to the top of a challenging climb. When properly
applied, the art of vertical movement transforms climbing into a
graceful dance in the vertical world. In this lesson you will learn to
climb efficiently, the importance of balance, foot work and conserving
your strength as well as specific climbing techniques to advance your
climbing ability.

What goes up must come down. Rappelling is a technique climbers use
to descend from steep climbs in the outdoors. At Prairie Walls
we have a rappelling ledge built into our main climbing wall. Students will learn
the proper use of equipment and safe rappelling methods.
